I Am Powerful

For rousing in oneself a feeling of raw power and primeval energy, I have discovered there’s nothing quite like biting the head off an animal and devouring the whole thing in one sitting. Even if it is a chocolate reindeer.

As news of this feat spreads, I imagine I will be all the more feared and respected.

The Apprentice – new series!

The new series of The Apprentice is nearly upon us! The one reality TV show that I can get excited about – it has a reasonably interesting subject matter and everything. Although I must admit I did watch Channel 4’s Space Cadets fairly religiously last year, and that was just ****ing daft.
Spurred on by talk of the new series, I’ve finally started reading the BBC book on The Apprentice, but I’m stated to find it hard going. Not because of the content, but because I can’t help but read it in Alan Sugar’s own voice, which I am stating to find quite fatiguing.
Andrew Collins’ blog provided some amusing commentary on the 2nd series last year, so will no doubt be worth keeping an eye on again, and I hopefully will feel suitably enthused to write a bit about it myself.

New series of The Apprentice starts Wednesday 28th March, BBC 1, 9pm.

Just… random… stuff.

Just a few random things that have amused me in the last few weeks.

  1. This morning on the bus, someone stood next to me sneezed. It sounded like an angry squelch.
  2. On a lunchtime walk, I was disappointed to have not seen a single amusing thing, or even thought of anything particularly funny. I was almost back at work, understandably a distraught young man, when the supermarket checkout guy waved goodbye to me.
  3. I am made slightly uneasy by people whose front teeth are further apart then their eyes.
  4. A fantastic facial piercing for goths would be to have a hook under their bottom lip, used to hang a raven in a cage.

Seppuku

Having made an embarrassingly shocking grammatical error in an online chat recently, naturally I briefly contemplated seppuku, and explained this to the chat-ee, who proceeded to ask what it was.

So first I turned to Wikipedia, which then provided me with the following links; they’re certainly the most amusingly informative articles on auto-disembowelment I’ve read recently.

Toilet soap trauma

I enjoyed a slightly alarming encounter in a pub toilet the other night. No not that sort of encounter, before you start sniggering at the back. I was washing my hands when a slightly inebriated gentleman leaned past me while I was washing my hands to get to the soap dispenser, for there was only one, on the right of the two sinks.

Normally, the drunkenly over-enthusiastic operation of this machine that resulted in the lever falling off and thus rendering the dispenser useless would have been strange enough. What really confused/surprised/frightened me was that after abandoning the hand washing, he went back to the urinal. At this point, I rapidly made my exit. While taking great care not to laugh.

Green Wing series 2 – video clips and DVD

Thanks to The British Sitcom Guide’s mailing list, I have just discovered there are clips from the special features on the new Green Wing series 2 DVD (out Monday) on YouTube:

  1. A deleted scene whereGuy, Mac and Boyce classify passing women as “lights on” or “lights off”.
  2. The first 2 minutes of the “making of” documentary. Although as I write, this isn’t working for me.

Green Wing DVDs are available from Amazon UK:

Alarming rap dream

Last night I had a dream in which I observed a young man performing a rap. An attempt at a funny rap. Now in my experience, the non-expert attempting a rap of any kind, let alone an allegedly amusing one, would normally be met by peals of laughter from all right-thinking people, and not in the way they were hoping for.

Like when a politician thinks this is a way they can connect with “da kidz” and the end result is just humiliating for everyone involved.

So what, exactly, is my subconscious playing at? I fear this bodes ill…

Talk Like A Pirate Day

Shiver yer timbers and yarg yer crackers for September 19th, Talk Like a Pirate Day, is here again. Er, maties. I’m sorry, I’m not very good at this. Aarr.

The official UK site yarr.org.uk is linking to Eye Patch Day, which is helping raise funds for the Jubilee Sailing Trust, a charity which organizes adventure sailing activities for physically disabled and able-bodied people.

The Eye Patch Day site also shows former Apprentice UK candidate, self-styled “business bad boy” and giant chicken enthusiast Syed Ahmed among the eyepatch-sporting celebrities. Also Rick Astley, who is of course famed mainly for a particularly fine anagram of his name, as well as all that singing stuff. The most promintently featured, though, is super-yachtswoman Ellen MacArthur, who seems to have turned into Michael J Fox judging by the picture…

And with that brief round-up, I be off to scrape the barnacles from me tired old body, and get some shuteye before the big day. Yaarrr, etc.
