In the first stages of the videogame Fable, as your character wanders around the various towns, as you have not yet gained any fame/notoriety, etc., you can hear the people around you saying things like “what’s this idiot doing now?” to themselves as you pass.

I thought this was supposed to be escapism, not a pixel-perfect recreation of my daily life.
